Fireworks
Boom! Pow! Colourful fireworks exploding in the night sky,
Curly, whirling, straight and short,
Fireworks shooting high like a star in the midnight sky,
People screaming with joy in their eyes,
Children jumping up and down with excitement waiting for the firework to blow,
Sparkles sizzling down the stick then disappearing slowly,
Flabbergasting colours for everyone to enjoy,
Booming and crackling sounds coming from above,
Bright lights in different unexplainable shapes and sizes,
Pets being terrified by banging sounds,
Guy Fawkes is indeed a night of beautiful and colourful magic whizzing by!!!

Letter to Mrs Plowright
Wednesday 27th July 2016
Mrs Plowright
Elm Park Primary School
46 Gossamer Drive
Pakuranga
AUCKLAND
Dear Mrs Plowright
I am writing to you because I think holidays are necessary and that they should stay. If children and teachers work for most of the year they would get stressed because their brains would be too full of knowledge, don't you agree?
My first opinion is that if you have families in other countries you would never be able to visit them because some countries are too far away for you to travel in just a weekend. Surely if you had family in another country you like to visit them, am I right?
Secondly, I think we need holidays too let our tiny brains have a rest from learning. If they didn't students might get really stressed because they have missed out on a longer holiday.
Last but not least, I think we should have holidays because if you were going away for a while you wouldn't be able to stay long. If it was far away you would want to stay for a few days but as soon as you got there you would have to to pack up and go back home.
I hope I have persuaded you to keep the 2 weeks holidays going for our school!!!!
Yours faithfully
My Reflection
WALT: Write a letter to persuade Mrs Plowright to keep school holidays
I found it difficult fo think if three ideas to write for the reasons of why we should keep school holidays.
I found it easy to think of some persuasive words to add to my letter.

Basic Needs for Survival
My Reflection
In room 19 we have been researching the basic needs that humans need for survival. We used websites to find this information and then we created an imovie to explain this information to the class
I was able to find the important ideas about the 5 basic needs that we need to survive and I also was able to write the important facts/ideas in my own words so that I could understand what I was writing.
In my group I think I co-operated really well so that everyone had a chance speaking and sharing.

Hawaii #2
100 Word Challenge
“We´re nearly there!” screamed Qing Qing. I couldn’t hear her because I was distracted by the beautiful view from the plane window. I felt a slight rattle as we landed softly. We were all so excited, we stood up and started jumping wildly. “Yay!” we all screamed excitedly. The doors opened slowly, everyone bounced off the plane.
After walking a while we decided to have lunch. A foot long subway would full our tummies followed by a M&M cookie for dessert. “Crunch!” I heard the cookie getting eaten quickly by Schapelle. At last our journey came to an end!

Hawaii #1
100 Word Challenge
“ Welcome aboard” I heard the captain say behind me. I was going on a trip to Hawaii, I was so excited.
All my best buddies were there except one. “ Hey were did Eliani go” I asked my friends. “ I don't know” Schapelle and Qing Qing replied. “ We better go and find her before the airplane takes off. So there we were searching around the whole airport for Eliani.
10 minutes later! “Eliani where were you?” We said.
We hurried back, jumped on the plane 5 minutes before it took of. We were going to have the time of our life.

Reading Evidence
My Reflection
Walt: find direct or inferred evidence in the text to support a character trait for a particular character in the story.
I was able to identify character traits for a particular using evidence from the text. I can identify if the evidence is direct or inferred.
My next step would be to use the character traits and evidence to find the purpose of a character in a text.

Term 2 Showcase
Walt: Use Personification in my Writing.
Last week on Thursday Edge Water College came to Elm Park Primary School for a touch clinic. We went to the shade area and got put into groups of six. Then just like a long snake we walked onto the field where we were going to have the clinic.
When we got on to the field with our groups we got put with Mario, he was 15 years old.
The First thing we did was play octopus but it was a little different, the tagger had to hold half of a swimming noodle. Whoever is in calls out something like run if you have a jumper on then everyone who has a jumper on will try to run to the other side of the court. If you get tagged you have to stand in the place you got tagged and sway around and try to touch people to get them out.

Maths Evidence
Walt: find fractions of sets by using multiplication and division eg. ⅓ of 21 is 7.
Question : Freddy had 40 toy pandas, He shared them with his mates Max and Louis. Freddy gave Max 2/4 of the toy pandas and Louis had 1/4 of the leftover toy pandas. How many pandas do Max and Louis get each?
Success Criteria:I was able to use my knowledge of division facts to help me solve fractions of sets. I understood that I needed to divide the amount in the set by the denominator eg. 21 divided by 7 is I understood that I needed to find out what the fraction of a set was for a unit fractions was before I could find out what the fraction of a set when the numerator was more than 1.

100 Word Challenge #2
100 Word Challenge
It was a stormy night and I was sitting in my favourite chair in the lounge with a hot cup of coco. I heard the thunder roar every second and saw the flashes of lighting every minute.
I decided to get ready for bed because tomorrow I was going to the olympic swimming competition. I got into bed, turned off my lamp and fell fast asleep.
Next morning I woke up at the crack of dawn, and got ready for the race. I got there just in time the whistle blew and EVERYONE DISAPPEARED. The race was officially ruined...

100 Word Challenge #1
100 Word Challenge
It all started with me searching for a seat because my legs were moaning, saying they were tired after a long day of walking. Finally found a bench, but someone was sitting on it reading.
(30 minutes later) OMG! The man was still sitting there.
Hang on... I saw someone else on it, he was bronze and looked really fake,he wore a top hat and looked very smart. I was guessing someone made a statue and put it there.
I was over waiting, my moaning legs were now screaming at me. I decided it was time to go home!
The End!

Maths Evidence - Term 1 2016
Maths Reflection
In maths I have been learning to improve my knowledge and understanding of numbers.
I was able to round to the nearest numbers really well because I know that numbers 1,2,3,4 are rounded down and numbers 5,6,7,8,9 get rounded up.
Next time I will need to learn how to identify groupings of 10, 100 in 4 digit numbers because I took a while to do this and sometimes I get confused.

Letter To Mrs Borcher
Dear Mrs Borcher
I have been fitting in to room 19 really well. We have learnt so many amazing things.
First , we wrote All About Me poems. We had to write words that describe ourselves so the poem is just about us for example a clever ( fantasy ) reader. Then we had to add pictures that relate to the poem. I really enjoyed doing these because I have learnt more about the people in my class.
We also did maths. We were learning how to read numbers up to one million. We had to read numbers like 135 701 I can read them really well now. I’m glad we did this because now I know how to read numbers up to one million.
For art we are making zentangle animals. We have to draw an animal then do lots of different patterns to make it look unique. I love art .
I hope you enjoyed learning about my class.
Thanks
Katie
My Reflection
We have been learning to write letters about what
we have been learning in room 19.
I was able to use words that described what we were writing about.
Next time I will use more describing words so that the people i'm writing to understand what I was learning more.

Reading Evidence Term 1 - Friends
Reflection
We have been reading the story “Friends” by Joy Cowley. Writing questions and asking questions are important because they help me understand what I am reading better.
I have learnt there are 4 different sorts of questions and they are right there, Think and Search, Author and Me and On my Own.
Next time I will sit closer on the mat so I can hear and understand the story better because I found it tricky writing three questions and I had to re-read the chapter myself.
